General objective of the DUMI training

The objective of the Centre de Formation de Musiciens Intervenants d'Aix-Marseille Université is to give musicians a professional university education, both musical, pedagogical and general, which will enable them to work in elementary and pre-elementary schools in collaboration with teachers and in partnership with the various educational and cultural structures of a territory.

Objective of the training

The training given at the Centre de Formation de Musiciens Intervenants of Aix-Marseille University is a professional training. The aim is to give the future guest musician all the means for a real professional integration.

This implies the acquisition of various skills, both in the musical and pedagogical fields. It also implies a detailed knowledge of the educational environment, as well as a reflection on the conditions of practice of this profession.

This university and professional training program consists of 1500 hours spread over 2 or 3 years, depending on the student's project or the advice of the teaching staff.

The first year is structured around theoretical and practical contributions concerning the fields of competence of the intervening musician: musical and artistic, didactic and pedagogical, organizational and relational skills.

The second year allows for a deepening of the reflection and the practice of the profession of the intervening musician.

The DUMI is certified in two ways:

Admission to the CFMI is subject to entrance tests.

Certification through initial training

  • Obtaining the DUMI is subject to the validation of the two years of training.
  • The professional nature of the diploma imposes certain specific validation procedures; this excludes the principle of compensation between teaching units, and the automatic authorization to enroll in the second year for a student who has validated 75% of the teaching credits of the first year.
  • Students who are advanced in certain fields may be exempted from courses. They will nevertheless have to take part in the mid-term and final exams to obtain the UE.

Validation of the first year

If all the compulsory teaching units of the first year are completed, the first year is validated.

The board of trainers meeting as a jury may decide, on the proposal of the CFMI management, to allow a student who has not validated all the teaching units of the first year to register in the second year. However, the DUM 147 "Pedagogy 1" unit blocks passage to the second year and is not subject to any exemption.

The organization of teaching excludes the possibility of a second examination session for certain teaching units.

Validation of the second year

If all the compulsory teaching units of the 1st and 2nd year are passed, the 2nd year is validated.

The organization of the courses excludes the possibility of a second exam session for certain courses. To acquire a UE of this type, the student will have to follow the entire course again.

Number of registrations

General case: The maximum duration of studies for the University Diploma of Intervention Musician is three years.

An additional registration may be authorized after examination of the file by the board of trainers meeting as a jury, without the cumulative number of annual registrations exceeding four.
